The Andrew Manitowabi Group, operating as Andy’s, is a family-owned business established in 1966 by Andrew Manitowabi, the father of nine children. With the community growing, more people getting cars and new homes being built by the Band, he saw the need for a gas station and home fuel delivery service. He had a backhoe for hire, to help with the home and road building initiatives of Wiky.
Andy would joke about selling groceries as well, so he could get food at wholesale prices to feed his large family. He also started his Laundromat with two washers and one dryer. For those who remember, the store was small but slowly grew from that meager beginning to what we have today.
Andy retired at the age of 72, handing over the management of the business to his seven remaining children in 1994. A partnership was created know as the Andrew Manitowabi Group. Andy still maintains a somewhat active role in the day to day operations by stopping in and checking on us. He wants to know any new developments and always cautions his children about large financing to ensure the business can handle the expenses. He really enjoys stopping by and visiting everyone and likes to see his customers happy.
